Nauli-a-day keeps the doctor away

Nauli Kriya is an abdominal massage one can achieve through breathe and manipulation of  your abdominal muscles.  It originated in India and was the first  lesson taught in classical yoga.

Nauli Kriya can:

  • Aid digestion
  • Cleanse the internal organs
  • Promote lymphatic drainage and
  • Tone the abdominal region.

How is all that possible?

The abdomen (commonly called the belly) is the body space between the chest and pelvis. The diaphragm forms the upper surface of the abdomen while the lower border are the pelvic bones.

The abdomen contains all the digestive organs, including the stomach, small and large intestines, pancreas, liver, and gallbladder.

The abdomen also contains the kidneys and spleen as well as many important blood vessels.

The organs in the abdomen are held together loosely by connective tissues called the mesentery. This Connective tissue  allows  the organs to expand and to slide against each other.

The mesentery  is a fatty apron that connects the intestine to the body, through which the blood vessels and lymphatics run.

The lymphatic system is of great importance because it is a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins and waste

The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells, throughout the body. If Lymph is your bodies superhero then the mesentery is the superhero’s utility belt.

If you were to lay open the small intestine, the surface area would be about the size of a tennis court! That is a lot of absorption and a lot of connective tissue, to keep the small intestine in place. Through Nauli Kriya exercises you will be able to massage the the whole abdominal area, including the mesentery, which holds the lymph and helps to keep us healthy.

This is my favorite way to start each day.

Watch the video below for a step by step guide on how to practice Nauli Kriya.

Fun Facts:

The small intestine, is about 22 feet long (6 to 7 meters),It is almost as long as a bus. The Large Intestine is about 6 feet long (1.5 meters) and the Colon is about 1 to 1.5 inches long (2.8 to 4 cm).
